Wahoo!! Festival season is upon us. It’s time to bust out the mochilas–the perfect festival bag! Although truth be told, I carry my mochila year round. One of the perks of being married to a Colombian is that I am well stocked up on mochilas. And I make sure that my friends are equipped as well, always leaving lots of room in my suitcase to bring back more for everybody. For those of you who won’t be traveling to Colombia any time soon, you can order yours from Shop Latitude.  And if you are planning a trip to Bogota, you can go straight to the source, Artesanias de Colombia

Come back next week, Sunday, April 19. We’ll be in Paris.

How does the saying go?  You should never talk politics or religion at a cocktail party.  The same probably holds true here.  Don’t worry, we are a fashion/photography blog, so there will be no discussion of religion.  But I just had to show you these rosaries because aren’t they pretty?  Whether it’s rosaries or mala beads or Buddhas, when an object is so infused with meaning, it becomes even more beautiful.  Most of the rosaries pictured here are part of Courtney’s collection that she gathered from trips to the Vatican.  The top two rosaries pictured are from my collection.  The first was given to me by Santiago’s mother Liliana.  Santiago’s grandparents loved to travel and they purchased that rosary on a trip to Jerusalem.  The second rosary comes from Colombia.

Next week, I’m bringing out something I made a couple of years ago.  It’s one of my favorite makes.  See you soon!

All necklaces by Jewels by Piper

I love contrasts.  These necklaces feature a beautiful antique locket with old fashioned appeal, but they are presented in a modern setting.  They are feminine without being too sweet.  They are precious and a little bit tough.  And I have to confess that I have always had a soft spot for lockets.  It’s like wearing a little secret around your neck.

Piper Dano makes these incredible necklaces that I’ve been slowly collecting over the years.  I’ve had the pleasure of meeting her a few times at her trunk shows and she is such a cool person.

Next week, Featherstitch Avenue goes psychedelic!  It’s gonna get weird.

I hope everyone enjoys the Oscars tonight.  I’ll be watching for the dresses.  I have not seen a single Best Picture nomination.  Not one!!  You know kids have happened to you when you’ve seen NOTHING in the Best Picture category and EVERYTHING in the Best Animated Feature category.  Go Big Hero 6!!!

Hello

I'm on a journey to become a fashion designer but I've got some stuff to learn along the way.

Featherstitch Avenue is my creative journal where any artistic experiment is fair game.
